About

Here's the thing... I strongly believe there is a virtuous cycle, a positive feedback loop, experienced when striving for sustainability and agility.

Sustainable methods/products/practices imply using less material, smarter material. Imply being more clever about how resources are used and allocated. Hint at giving a crap about the world we all live in.

Agility, here, means the ability to react to the environment in an intelligent way. Being able to quickly pounce on opportunities or avoid dangers because we are light on our feet. This is most likely possible when we have clear ideas of direction, values, and goals.

When these two forces are at work there is almost always more than one reason for adopting these practices. The advantages can be numerous.

My name is Andrew Barker. I currently work as Business/Systems analyst (IT jockey). I used to be a developer. Before that, much of my life was spent in education; an elementary school teacher and adventure based educator (think Outward Bound).

Hopefully, I'll find all the work I do here to be meaningful. Mostly there will be pointers to sites and news I find interesting, but I do have some ideas for original pieces, as well.

Enjoy
